Pokémon Diamond and Pearl are getting remakes for Nintendo Switch. The Pokémon Company announced the news today during a special Pokémon Presents broadcast. Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl will launch in late 2021.
Diamond and Pearl were launched in 2006 for the Nintendo DS. The game introduces the Sinnoh region, home to pokémon like Bidoof, Luxio, Drifloon, and Arceus. The updated version has a cute and chibified look, although they are both "faithful remakes" of the original. A trailer released alongside today's news teases familiar locations and faces in the Switch version, as well as some quality-of-life improvements. Pokémon Home developer Ilca is working on both games with longtime Game Freak director Junichi Masuda
There have been rumors about a remake of Diamond and Pearl online over the last few weeks. This year marks the game's 15th anniversary, in addition to Pokémon's 25th anniversary overall. The company has celebrated with a virtual concert featuring Katy Perry and Post Malone.
