Samsung Shows What The 6G Look Like: Hologram, 16K XR & More

RakitAplikasi.com/en - South Korean technology giant Samsung has published a new white paper detailing its vision for the next generation of telecommunications networks, i.e. 6G. Does this article address various questions, such as when is the 6G launch? What is the download speed on 6G? What use cases will be handled?

Samsung estimates that the first 6G network will be launched around 2028, with wider adoption by 2030. Countries around the world are increasing their network to 5G, but it is not yet mainstream.

As per the white paper, there will be a clear increase in connection latency, reliability, and transfer speed. Samsung said it aims to provide "a peak data rate of 1,000GBps and a user experience data rate of 1GBps."

So, on paper, the amount is enough to make a 5G network dwarf today that can offer up to 20GBps of peak data rates.

Comparison between 5G and 6G

What can you do with this amazing 6G speed?

Of course, watching Netflix in the highest resolution possible with zero-buffer is not the only thing we have to imagine. Samsung said the 6G service will be built on what our current 5G network has to offer.

Here, we discuss the deep experience of XR (Extended Reality), cellular holograms, and digital replicas. As per the paper, providing XR experience in 16K UHD quality will require network throughput beyond what 5G can offer.

For example, current technology requires 55.3Mbps to stream AR (Augmented Reality) content on an 8K display. Here, a truly in-depth AR experience will require 0.44Gbps, so the XR requirements will be several levels higher.

Samsung predicts that mobile devices will be able to render media for 3D Hologram displays. So, maybe in the future, we can expect Star Wars-style holographic video calls. Sending hologram data in real-time can show us the real potential of a 6G network because human-sized holograms in real-time may require some Tbps of bandwidth.

Samsung 6G Digital Replica

Other uses of 6G will include making digital replicas, i.e. making digital versions of real-world objects and placing them in VR, which again will be a bandwidth-intensive process. Besides, sensors mounted on physical devices can be used to interact with them from the VR world. For example, someone controls a robot by interacting with it, a digital replica.

AI will become part of the next-generation telecommunications network. This will be used to reduce bandwidth consumption and other tasks such as predicting and fixing network problems.

Besides, 6G networks can be made more efficient by using technologies such as Split Computing, where processing workloads are distributed across devices.

Here, this paper shows that an open-source from a separate computing platform would be beneficial given the diverse nature of hardware and developers.

Samsung also noted that the deployment time for successive telecommunications generations has been reduced over the years. That's 15 years for 3G, while the world only takes 8 years to jump to the 5G network. With that, let's see how the 6G network changes and what is owned by big telecommunications giants like Ericsson and Huawei.

Huawei CEO Ren Zhengfei told CNBC last year that the company had started working on 6G a long time ago, parallel to 5G, but commercialization was not expected before 10 years.
