Bella Poarch’s lip-syncing video “M to the B” have become TikTok’s biggest viral video of the year, TikTok announced this morning. Poarch followed by the iconic live skate / cran-raspberry juice video of 420doggface208.
The rankings are revealed as part of a year-end summary of TikTok’s biggest videos, trends, and creators. The rankings are not strictly scientific (viral video ratings, for example, are based on “views” and “impact”), but they do offer a representative view of what dominates the app and broke out beyond it.
Other videos on TikTok’s top viral list include Will Smith’s entry in the Wipe It Down challenge and a special effects video of superhero Julian Bass that went viral enough to catch the attention of Disney chief executive Bob Iger.
The company’s top content creators are led by Charli D’Amelio, of course, and also includes familiar names like Addison Rae and Noah Beck. Jason Derulo listed as TikTok’s top celebrity creator, followed by Kylie Jenner and Lizzo.
- Charli D’Amelio hits 100 million TikTok followers
- Snap Spotlight officially launched to compete with TikTok
- YouTube will run ads on some of the creators’ videos but won’t provide them any revenue
Anyone who has spent time on TikTok can probably guess some of TikTok’s top songs this year. Number one went to Derulo’s “Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat),” with Megan Thee Stallion’s “Savage Remix” second and “WAP” at fourth. Like other categories, TikTok doesn’t base these ratings solely on plays but also on metrics like how many creators created videos and how often people engaged with those videos.
The full list seems more about describing how huge the TikTok year rather than literally ranking all success across the app. But for that, the rankings do a great job of showing how much community, trends, viral songs, and more have sprung up thanks to TikTok.
