Deepfakes are the latest buzz in the tech world, and their popularity is only increasing as the US elections draw near. In simple words, a deepfake is an image, audio, or video created using artificial intelligence to manipulate what someone is saying or doing in the video, adding fake audio, etc.

For example, someone could make a deepfake video of President Donald Trump saying that he likes K Pop more than anything.

Amid all this chaos, the bigger problem is how we can see deepfakes circulating all over the internet. While some movie parodies are funny and harmless, some contain misinformation and fake news that unsuspecting users might easily believe.

Never mind common users, it's even difficult for experts to label certain media as deepfakes. However, we still need to be aware of any red flags that might be included in deepfake videos. By the way, Microsoft has released the Spot The Deepfake quiz in partnership with the UW Center for an Informed Public, Sensity, and USA Today.

Spot The Deepfake quiz features a series of ten questions covering various aspects of deepfake technology and lets you judge if you can find them. One area where deepfake videos struggle is the eyes; there may be errors around the eyes in the deepfake video.

The quiz also discusses what consequences fake political videos can have if they are shown on social media. Also, if you think a particular medium is a deepfake, the first thing you should do is compare it to other credible sources.

The ultimate goal is to keep US citizens fully informed ahead of the 2020 elections, but anyone can use it to increase their knowledge of deepfakes. This quiz comes alongside the announcement of the Microsoft Video Authenticator, which is a new deepfake detection tool Microsoft intended for US elections.
